Established in 1959, Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI) is one of the most competitive research institutes in the country. The Institute enhances the capacity to understand disease and deliver state-of-the-art treatments, care, prevention and cures.
For more than a decade, CHORI has been in the top ten of US children’s hospitals receiving National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants. Currently, the Institute’s scientists work with doctors at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland in over 300 clinical trials.
It has been with the generous support of donors, both small and large alike, that CHORI has achieved such major milestones as providing the first cure of alpha thalassemia major in North America, establishing the world's first and only non-profit sibling donor cord blood program, or developing a new vaccine for meningitis.
Be a part of our next 50 years of achievements
Help us create a vaccine for cancer. Assist us in preventing childhood obesity. Help us eliminate global iron deficiency and eradicate meningitis for good. Any of these advances in medicine could be the next key innovation that results from CHORI research.
Different Ways of Giving
Endowment opportunities exist to support any of CHORI's four centers of research or to support the ongoing research of an individual Investigator. Individuals, families, corporations and foundations also have an opportunity to establish endowed chairs. Your endowment assists with recruitment and retention of outstanding basic and clinical researches worldwide. Supporting scientists through endowed chairs helps maintain the excellence of faculty and their work in perpetuity.
Consider an honor or memorial gift to CHORI as a meaningful way to appreciate someone special. Recognize the accomplishment of a friend, relative, or colleague with a memorial gift. While honoring or memorializing special people in your life, you can join us in making today's research tomorrow's cure.
Gift planning is a way for you to personally help advance pediatric and adult research, both locally and globally, and achieve your retirement and estate planning goals at the same time. Make CHORI a part of your legacy by including a gift of any size in your will or living Trust. Supplement your retirement income or save taxes years and help CHORI too. Your gift plan will be tailored to meet your financial situation and your vision for the health and wellbeing of our community and its children – now and for years to come.
Individuals, corporations or foundations may also give direct gifts to support individual research in specific areas such as cancer and birth defects prevention, genetics, blood diseases, diabetes, vaccine development, blood and marrow transplantation, nutrition and disease prevention. Gifts may also go toward the establishment of educational programs and seminars for scientific and lay audiences.
