POSITIONS & Awards

Dr. Dean is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and Faculty in the UC Berkeley - UCSF Graduate Program in Bioengineering.  She is an active member of the Global Alliance to Eliminate Trachoma, World Health Organization, since 1999.  She is also an active reviewer for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation, the Wellcome Trust and the European Union.  She is a recipient of the International Professorship Award for Latin America from the American Society of Microbiology.  Most recently, Dr. was honored as the Recipient of the United Nation’s Global Citizen Award. Dr. Dean has collaborations with biotechnology companies in the bay area to advance vaccine development for chlamydiae and apply nanotechnology to advance our understanding of chlamydial disease pathogenesis. She is a Senior Scientist at CHORI and Director of Children’s Global Health Initiative (www.CGHI.info).
