Dr. Dean is a Professor of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine and faculty in the Department of Bioengineering, University of California at Berkeley. She is an active member of the Global Alliance to Eliminate Trachoma, World Health Organization, since 1999. She is also a standing member of the IRAP study section at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is currently the recipient of the International Professorship Award for Latin America from the American Society of Microbiology. Dr. Dean has collaborations with biotechnology companies in the bay area to advance vaccine development for chlamydiae and apply nanotechnology to advance our understanding of chlamydial disease pathogenesis. She is a Senior Scientist at CHORI.
