General description: The NIH/NHLBI Short-Term Research Education Program to Increase Diversity in Health-Related Research is designed to promote diversity in undergraduate and health professional student populations by providing short term research education support to stimulate career development in cardiovascular, pulmonary, hematologic, sleep disorders and other related fields. The goal of this funded program is to provide research opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, racial and ethnic minorities and others who are underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research (e.g. individuals with disabilities) that will significantly contribute to a diverse research workforce in the future. General description: In partnership with the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute the Elizabeth Nash Foundation has a strong interest in supporting a short-term research training opportunity in the specific area of Cystic Fibrosis. The goal is to identify students who have a strong personal interest in pursuing research in Cystic Fibrosis.

General description: CHRCO/CHORI host students funded by the American Heart Association Undergraduate and Medical Student Research Program to carry out cardiovascular-related research. The students will be paired with a lab supervisor (or equivalent for medical students). The American Heart Association will process the applications and select the candidates. Please contact the CHORI Summer Research Program Co-Director Dr. V. Narayanaswami if you are applying for this award. General description: CHRCO/CHORI host students funded by the American Pediatric Society & Society for Pediatric Research to carry out research related to pediatrics. Students selected to the program by the American Pediatric Society are able to choose or are assigned a CHORI/CHRCO lab that is currently registered with the American Pediatric Society (http://www.aps-spr.org/Directories/Students/login.asp) (this site lists all the labs with APR; check for investigators CHRCO or CHORI). The American Pediatric Society will process the applications and select the candidates. Please contact the CHORI Summer Research Program Director and/or the Co-Director (Dr. Bertram Lubin or Dr. V. General Description: We welcome students who are not interested in or are not eligible for the funded positions and who would like to volunteer during the CHORI Summer Research Program. More detailed description is provided in the posters and application forms.

All registered students will have the same curriculum regardless of their funded or volunteer status and will be considered part of the CHORI Summer Student Research Program.
