2003 Research Symposium: Presented by CHORI's Summer Interns
(August 14, 2003) The 2003 Research Symposium, presented by CHORIs Summer Interns, was held on August 14, 2003 in the Little Theater at CHORI. This symposium gave students an opportunity to present what they had learned during their recently completed summer participation in the Jolyce Hardesty Summer Research Program, Underrepresented Minorities in the Sciences, funded by the NIH. CHORI has expanded this program to include students that that do not necessarily fit the NIH profile. The additional students worked as volunteers. A total of 28 people were funded and an additional 11 volunteers participated. Each student was assigned to and mentored by either a Principal Investigator at CHORI or a M.D at Childrens Hospital Oakland. Dr. Bertram H. Lubin, MD (President and Director of Medical Research at CHORI) served as Director; Barbara Staggers, M.D. was Co-Director, and Kristine Munir served as Program Coordinator. The Symposium included a morning of student oral presentations, a catered lunch in the CHORI courtyard and an afternoon of viewing student poster presentations.
