Dr. Ronald Krauss Receives $13.18 million NIH precision medicine grant (, and other science publications, 9/9/15): Article about CHORI's Dr. Ronald Krauss receiving a five-year, $13,184,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for precision medicine research in statin response. The grant will enable Dr. Krauss and Dr. Marisa Medina to apply a multi-disciplinary approach to identify genetic determinants of the efficacy of statin drugs in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), as well as the risk for adverse effects of statins, specifically myopathy and type-2 diabetes.

On June 26 Assembly member Nancy Skinner, awarded CHORI's John and Edna Beck Chair in Pediatric Cancer Research, Associate Adjunct Professor in Pediatrics, University of California, San Francisco, Julie Saba, MD, PhD, as one of the recipients of the 15th Assembly District Women of the Year Awards, celebrating women trailblazers who have made significant contributions in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), at an award ceremony in Emeryville. This year’s ceremony honored STEM women and organizations that have made groundbreaking contributions in research and technology and have helped advance and inspire women and girls to pursue STEM careers. Julie was honored with Stem Accomplishment award recognizing Dr. Saba’s research on using targeted drugs for specific mutations in cancer patients.
