Dr. King as been with CHORI for over 10 years as a Senior Scientist, and has been a leader in her field, making significant contributions to the body of human nutrition research, application, and policy development. "CHORI is highly regarded world-wide as a leading center of biomedical research. I am extremely proud to have this opportunity to serve as the executive director and to work in that capacity with our superb scientists and staff," says Dr. King.

Dr. King is taking over from Alexander Lucas, PhD, who has stepped down as Executive Director at CHORI to resume his role as Senior Scientist and return to his laboratory research.

"Dr. Lucas took the helm in 2009 during a critical period of transition and has tirelessly served this institute," says Dr. Lubin. "No one has been more dedicated to advancing CHORI and its research than Dr. Lucas, and I speak for everyone at Children's in thanking him for his efforts."

Dr. Lucas will have been with CHORI for 25 years as of this coming October, 2013. Joining CHORI in 1988 and advancing to Senior Scientist before eventually serving for nine years as Deputy Director and then four years as Executive Director, Dr. Lucas has been a pivotal figure at CHORI throughout his tenure. Dr. Lucas's landmark research in helping define the genetic and molecular basis of immunity to encapsulated bacterial pathogens, his commitment to ensuring CHORI's financial strength, and his dedication to serving the institute to infinity and beyond, as Dr. Lucas would say, are an integral part of what CHORI has become.

"It will be hard to exceed the passion and commitment with which Alex has served this institute," says Dr. King. "On behalf of all of us at CHORI, I would like to offer sincerest thanks and wish him well in his return to what brought him to us in the first place the joy and challenge of laboratory research."
