Jeanette Asselin

Jeanette Asselin RRT, MS, is the Manager of the Neonatal-Pediatric Research Group at Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland.  She has been at CHRCO for 24 years.  She is a Respiratory Therapist who specialized in the care and ventilation of sick preterm newborns. She initially worked as the RT supervisor of Newborn Intensive Care Unit at CHRCO.  In 1989, she began working with the Division of Neonatology doing clinical research.  Partnering with David Durand MD, she created the Neonatal-Pediatric Research Group (NPRG) in 1991.  She received her Masters in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis from the University of Michigan in 1995.  The NPRG has been involved in more than 50 research studies, many of them multi-center clinical trials.  While her expertise is in managing large clinical trials, she has been involved in all phases of clinical research (protocol design, budgeting, implementation, data form design, completion, analysis and manuscript preparation.  Most notably, she was a co-investigator and project manager of the study of Early HFOV vs SIMV in Preterm Infants (NEnglMed2002;347:643-52), and was a study monitor of the study of Nitric Oxide Use in Preterm Infants Mechanically Ventilated at 7-21 Days of Age (NEnglJMed 2006;355:343-353). In addition to these, she has co-authored several clinical manuscripts, reviews and chapters.  Ms Asselin has been a member of the Children’s Hospital Research Committee and the IRB since 1996.
