MEN NEEDED FOR DIETARY PROTEIN STUDY

Do you enjoy eating beef?

Ever wonder if eating more beef will change your cholesterol?

The Center for Cholesterol Research (CRC) can help you learn more about the impact of a beef diet on your health.

Interested?

In Order to Participate in our Beef Protein Study, You Must:
  • BE MALE and at least 18 years old
  • Have a body mass index (BMI) of at least 20 but no greater than 35. Click HERE to calculate your BMI.
  • Be willing to abstain from alcohol and dietary supplements
  • Be a non-smoker
  • Be willing to follow 3 specific diets for 3 weeks each

The diets must be followed EVERY DAY with NO CHEATING for each 3-week period, and EVERYTHING on the menus must be eaten – no food nor beverage substitutions allowed. Click HERE for more information about the diets.

The study is 13 weeks long, during which time you must also be able to:

  • Wear a pedometer to monitor your physical activity
  • Come to the Cholesterol Research Center (CRC) in Berkeley every week to be weighed and to pick up entrees and portions of beef (Click HERE for CRC location)
  • Come to the CRC for 6 morning visits for blood draws, 3 of which will last 2.5 hours, and 3 of which may last as long as 7 hours, and
  • Maintain a body weight within a range that is no more than 3 percent above or below your initial screening weight (For example, a 200 pound man may not gain or lose more than 6 pounds)
You will be compensated $1400 for full participation in the study.

Please note, however, that people with certain health issues which would compromise either the study results, or their own health, can not be in the study. This includes those who have heart disease, diabetes, or cancer, or those taking lipid lowering medications, diabetes medications, hormones, certain blood pressure medications, blood thinning agents, and some other drugs.
