Lipid Group Journal Club 2003-2004

Welcome to the 2003-2004 Lipid Biology in Health & Disease Research Group Journal Club discussions in CHORI. I am pleased to note that the last three years were successful in part due to the excellence of the research presentations and the commitment of each and every individual who set aside time and effort towards participating in the discussions. It has enabled us to emerge as a unique group of scientists devoted to research in Lipid Biology in CHORI. This year I have coerced a few new scientists and trainees to do presentations. I believe it will be a valuable experience to discuss research work objectively in an informal atmosphere.

As before, we will meet in the Board Room on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month over lunch hour between 12 noon and 1:00PM. You may use any mode of presentation: chalk board, overheads or PowerPoint. The IT staff will help us setting up the talk about 30 min in advance. The speakers should inform me or Diane Kohlman or the IT staff about their audio-visual requirements about a week in advance.

The topic for discussion should be in the broad area of Lipids. You may also present your own research work. Please prepare a presentation that will last about 35-40 min. This will allow ample time for discussions during and after the presentation. Despite the fact that we all bear a common interest in the topic of Lipids, the presenters are encouraged to provide a detailed introduction. Please let me know a week in advance the title of your presentation and if you are presenting a paper, send the paper as a pdf attachment. I will email it to the Group a few days in advance so that we will have a chance to read the paper ahead of time.
