Swim Accross America Funds Benefit CHORI Research

Since 2008, SAA has included CHORI’s Center for Cancer Research among its beneficiaries each year. We are extremely proud to have received this honor, and we are ready to jump into the water with SAA again this year.  We are gearing up for our 2010 events...  To get involved by swimming, volunteering, donating, or starting your own swim, please click here.

Pilot Projects RFA is made possible by SAA 2009 fundraising event.

Since 2008, CHORI has used SAA funds to:

1. Support Dr. Babak Oskouian, SAA Fellow, in his transition to an independent career in cancer research.  Dr. Oskouian is studying the relationship between a leukemia breakpoint gene called Af1q and growth-regulatory lipids called sphingolipids.
2. Support studies undertaken by Dr. Martha Ladner in the laboratory of Dr. Elizabeth Trachtenberg, where she is trying to gain a better understanding of how natural killer cell immunogenetics can be leveraged to improve survival and reduce relapse rates in acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation.
3. Support studies undertaken by Dr. Lucia Carbone investigating epigenetic changes in lymphoma/leukemia which may explain the increased propensity of cancer cells to undergo chromosomal breaks and rearrangements.
4. Purchase histology equipment
