cooperative pediatric clinical trials group in the nation – CHORI’s Center for Cancer clinical oncology department participates in the design, monitoring and implementation of clinical research trials aimed at improving the long term outcome of all children with malignant tumors. Within The Cancer Center, clinical researchers strive to determine the most effective treatment for specific types of cancers and investigate unique tumor characteristics of patients related to either ethnic background and/or environmental exposures.

The director of Children Hospital Oakland’s (CHO) nationally renowned Oncology Department, James Feusner, MD, is responsible for the major clinical research efforts of The Cancer Center. Dr. Feusner is Chairperson of the CHO Tumor Board, a biweekly multidisciplinary board providing formal treatment recommendations for clinical patients, and serves as the principle investigator for all COG protocols. Dr. Feusner’s main research interests include acute, promyelocytic leukemia, hepatoblastoma, late effects of cancer treatment and supportive care.

Carla Golden, MD, is a clinical pediatric oncologist specializing in solid tumors and methotrexate toxicities.
