Infusion Matching System (Inmas)

Case Number CH-046

Inventors: F. R. Berberich, MD

This invention provides a device and method for preventing the incorrect administration of transfusion medication to a patient.

Currently, human error or haste in an emergency can result in the administration of a transfusion medication to a patient that was intended for another.  Having nurses or physicians double check the patient ID numbers relies on accuracy on the part of personnel who may be fatigued, harried or careless.

The invention comprises a fail-safe transfusion unit, that when implemented, prevents such mis-administration of human medications.  This system can also be applied to the administration of any blood product, IV fluid, or administration of breast milk from breast milk banks in the hospital nursery.
